One More Week!

One more week 'til we get to.......... meet new FRIENDS, LAUGH with old camp buddies, learn to DANCE, play on the playground, ACT in a play, make a VIDEO, create MAGIC,
write a SONG, have some of Keith's amazing LEMONADE, work with CLAY, TIE DYE a T-shirt, PAINT a picture,  AND SO MUCH MORE!

The Theme for July 8 -12 is
RAINFOREST RETREAT
Campers will explore the Rainforest in search of exotic plants, 

colorful birds and unusual animals to transform into amazing art.
  
Meet a few members of the Art Staff joining us at the Poughkeepsie Campus this year!
GUSTAVO  Caldas (Dancer/Musician) is joining us this summer for Week 1 Rainforest Retreat. Gustavo dances with Vanaver Caravan, he recently performed at the Clearwater Revival in Croton. He is a native of Salvador, Bahia in Brazil. The Caldas family hails from a long lineage of capoeiristas that have practiced Capoeira (an Afro-Brazilian martial arts), Afro-Brazilian dance, and music, which Gustavo began studying as a young child. Gustavo toured extensively with Bale Folclorio da Bahia’ premier company and was selected to teach adult Capoeira workshops. He offers classes in the practice and instrumentation of Capoeira. His unique talents have allowed him the opportunity to teach and perform throughout the U.S. and Europe. 
 
DEBORAH Coconis joins the Poughkeepsie Campus for the first 4 weeks then will travel to our Northern Campus in Red Hook to finish the summer! Deborah is a mask maker, performer and teacher with a degree in theater and visual art from Roger Williams College. Her larger than life masked characters, such as Loopy Chenille and Mistress Hatemori have appeared on stage and television, in exhibitions, at festivals such as New Year's Eve Millbrook, and in print in The Boston Herald and Poughkeepsie Journal.  She teaches at the Millbrook Community Preschool at Grace Church in Millbrook and is the happy mother of a nine year old son.

MIRA Fink is a certified art teacher with a BFA in painting and a Masters in Elementary Education from SUNY New Paltz.  This year will be her seventh summer teaching at DAC!  She is represented by the Gray Owl Gallery in New Paltz, NY and has exhibited her nature inspired watercolor, oil paintings and mixed media pieces in solo and juried shows for the last 25 years.  Mira teaches watercolor painting and mixed media “Art Play” classes for adults throughout the year at various locations in Ulster and Dutchess County.  You can see her art and find out about classes at http://www.mirafink.com

These are just a few of the amazingly talented artists who will be creating FUN projects with campers this summer in Poughkeepsie!
