Poughkeepsie Galleria
"A Day at Arts Camp"
1-4pm Center Court
On April 6th, 2013, the center court stage at the Poughkeepsie Galleria will be brimming with award winning musical talent, art making fun, dance, drumming and lots of frolicking. “It is a glimpse into our summer magic”, said Ann Teed, director of the Millbrook Dutchess Arts Camp site. “This year, instead of having four individual open houses for the Dutchess Arts Camp 2013 kick off, we decided to take our fantastical, fun filled camp experience to the public. It is a great way to celebrate our 32nd year of serving the public and making an impact on our community through the arts. “We change lives, stated Teed as she spoke of all the year round programs offered by Mill Street Loft.  Bringing our summer camp experience the Poughkeepsie Galleria is like bringing what we do to the “Main Street” of our community. We want to celebrate with everyone by simulating a Day at Arts Camp”. There will be an array of art demonstrations including the potter’s wheel, mask making, printmaking and paper marbling. Along with our professional demos, everyone will have the opportunity to make a cosmic parade hat which will be used in our “Sharing” at 3pm. (The culminating group sing-along and impromptu performance which invites everyone to be an active part.) The music performance line up for the afternoon is a star studded list of past and present DAC artists who hold national and international honors such as the Guinness Book of Records, Parents Choice Award and the Oppenheimer Award. “We look forward to an awesome afternoon full of art making, music, drumming, dancing and singing with the community”, said Teed. “Moms, Dad, Grandparents and children are in for a great treat! Summer will be here before you know it. Let’s welcome spring together!”
The event is free and guaranteed to be a big hit for families. 1-4pm
